Locally owned places along Friendswood Drive and Parkwood Avenue (FM 528), plus a few on the edges of town.

A butcher shop, meat market, and grille from the Perry family, whose business started in 1979 as a Houston meat market. The grille serves steaks, pork chops, and seafood, and the market sells fresh cuts to cook at home.

An Italian restaurant and bar on West Parkwood serving pasta, pizza, and Italian-American dishes. It is open for lunch and dinner every day.

An open-concept scratch kitchen serving smash burgers, house-smoked wings, pasta, paninis, and salads for lunch and dinner, with a specialty food market in the same space.

A dinner spot and cocktail bar in the same center as Locals Kitchen + Market, with a New American menu, craft cocktails, and a bourbon list.

A family-run Mexican and Tex-Mex restaurant on FM 2351 near Blackhawk Boulevard that opened in 2015. It serves breakfast along with lunch and dinner.

A casual Vietnamese restaurant on FM 528 known for banh mi sandwiches, grilled pork dishes, and rice and noodle bowls. It has outdoor seating.

A small Vietnamese restaurant serving pho, banh mi, vermicelli bowls, egg rolls, and spring rolls.

A pizza restaurant and sports bar from a Pearland-based group that works with local breweries for its beer list.

Friendswood is a town of restaurant bars and one sports pub rather than breweries. The closest taproom is in Clear Lake Shores.

An independent craft brewery in Clear Lake Shores with a family-friendly taproom, a full food menu, and a pet-friendly patio. It is a drive east of Friendswood, past League City.

Independent shops first, most of them on or just off Friendswood Drive.

A locally run coffee shop with Latin-inspired espresso drinks and pastries such as conchas, alfajores, and tres leches.

An independent cafe on the north side serving coffee, teas, macarons, and breakfast.

City parks along Friendswood Drive, Cowards Creek, and Clear Creek. All of them are run by Friendswood Parks & Recreation.

The city's central park, with a gazebo, three playgrounds, a splash pad, the city pool, a half-mile rubberized jogging trail, lighted tennis courts, pickleball courts, basketball, and sand volleyball. Most city events are held here.

A park with a playground, a pavilion, picnic tables, a walking trail, a concrete ping pong table, and the city dog park. A pedestrian bridge over Cowards Creek connects it to Stevenson Park.

A large sports and recreation park with a paved half-mile trail, a playground, picnic pavilions, a fishing pond, lighted soccer and football fields, a basketball pavilion, a four-lane track, and the Evelyn B. Newman Amphitheater.

Good to KnowThe gate is open from 6am to 11pm.

About 13 acres of natural parkland on Clear Creek with a hiking and biking trail and a kayak launch. The city describes it as a spot for wildlife viewing and nature study.

A 19-acre complex of baseball and multi-purpose fields used by youth and adult leagues. The city also calls it the Renwick Sports Complex.

The 27-acre Friendswood Sportspark, with four lighted adult softball fields, four lighted youth softball fields, concessions, and restrooms.

One city dog park, with a leashed walk across the creek right beside it.

The city's off-leash dog park, a 1.6-acre space inside Old City Park with separate fenced areas for small and large dogs, plus water and washing stations. It opened in 2019.

Good to KnowClosed on Mondays for maintenance. Children under 12 are not allowed inside the dog park.

Outside the fenced dog park, dogs must stay on a leash. The walking trail and the pedestrian bridge over Cowards Creek make a two-park loop with Stevenson Park.

In Friendswood, live music mostly means free concerts in the park. The clubs and bigger stages are a drive east toward Clear Lake and Kemah.

City-run concerts at the Stevenson Park gazebo on Friday evenings in May and June, with family-friendly bands and raffle prizes at intermission. All concerts are open to the public.

A 186-seat outdoor amphitheater at Centennial Park used for community programs and available to rent.

A long-running Clear Lake rock club with touring and regional bands.

A Kemah steakhouse and smokehouse with an outdoor backyard stage that books blues, country, rock, and trop rock acts.

The Boardwalk runs free outdoor concert series, including Rock the Dock on Thursday evenings in summer.

Local TipThe boardwalk has it all: live music, great restaurants, shopping, and a lot of fun for everyone.

The city parks come first here, with a few gyms and studios on Friendswood Drive after.

A Walmart Supercenter just west of the Gulf Freeway. It has a Friendswood mailing address but is a drive east of central Friendswood.

The closest Sam's Club, across El Dorado from the Walmart Supercenter and just west of the Gulf Freeway.

A short list on purpose. The small shops are on South Friendswood Drive, and the regional mall is a short drive east.

The area's regional mall, at the Gulf Freeway and Bay Area Boulevard: an enclosed mall plus an outdoor lifestyle center with a dining district. It has a Friendswood mailing address but sits inside the Houston city limits.

The official visitor center for NASA's Johnson Space Center, with exhibits, flown spacecraft, and tram tours onto the working NASA campus.

Local TipThis is one of our favorites. We grew up and went to school with several of the astronauts' kids, and Vicky's dad worked for NASA contractors all his life. This is part of who we are!

A waterfront amusement area on Galveston Bay with a wooden roller coaster, a Ferris wheel, a carousel, a train, restaurants, and a marina.

Friendswood was founded in 1895 by Quakers led by Frank J. Brown and T. H. Lewis, on 1,538 acres of prairie along the creeks. These are the places where you can still see that story.

The Quaker congregation the town grew up around, still meeting on Friendswood Drive. The stone church dates to 1949, when it replaced the two-story Academy that had served as church, school, and meeting place.

Good to KnowThe Texas Historical Commission marker for Friendswood, placed in 1967, stands in front of the church.

Two more markers on the church grounds. One tells the story of the Academy, built with lumber the colony milled from trees felled by the 1900 Galveston storm. The other marks the Friends Church Cemetery.

A replica of the first house built in Friendswood, the 1895 home of founder Frank J. Brown, run by the Friendswood Historical Society. The original house was torn down in the early 1960s and the replica was built in 1970. A restored barber shop sits on the same grounds.

One of the city's longest-running traditions. A morning parade runs down Friendswood Drive to Stevenson Park, and the evening ends with fireworks at Centennial Park. See the Don't Miss tab.

An all-day city celebration and one of the longest-running traditions in Friendswood. It starts with a morning parade down Friendswood Drive to Stevenson Park, followed by rides, games, food, and live entertainment in the park, then an evening program and fireworks at Centennial Park.

Good to KnowIn past years there has been no public parking at Centennial Park for the evening program, with free shuttles running instead.

City concerts at the Stevenson Park gazebo on Friday evenings in May and June. See the Hear It Live tab.

Family movie nights at the city pool in Stevenson Park on select summer evenings in July and August. You can watch from the pool deck or from the water, and the movie starts at sundown.

A free, family-friendly evening at Stevenson Park in late October, hosted by the Friendswood Chamber of Commerce, with local businesses and vendors handing out candy.

A chip-timed 5K run and walk with a kids race, held at Stevenson Park on a Saturday morning in early December. It is named for the pancake breakfast served to participants afterward, and the proceeds go to city park improvements.

The city's Christmas festival at Stevenson Park on a Saturday in December, with photos with Santa, a holiday market, snow to play in, a Christmas tree lighting, and fireworks.
