Neighborhood guide
Katy
Historic rice-farming roots, one of the most internationally diverse dining scenes in the Houston area, and master-planned communities in every direction.
Katy has managed to become huge without completely losing Old Katy. The original community grew around railroads and rice farming, and that history is still visible around the railroad depot, the heritage district, the old rice dryers, and the annual Rice Harvest Festival — the City continues to actively promote Historic Katy and its museums, parks, and events.
Drive a few miles south or west, though, and you're in an entirely different Katy: large master-planned communities, resort-style amenities, new construction, LaCenterra, Katy Mills, major medical facilities, and one of the Houston area's most diverse suburban food scenes, anchored by Katy Asian Town's cluster of Malaysian, Sichuan, Korean, Japanese, and Vietnamese restaurants along Colonial Parkway. Katy gives you old Texas and new Houston in the same community.
