Neighborhood guide
Clear Lake
NASA down the road, sailboats on the lake, and established neighborhoods under old trees. Where we both grew up.

Clear Lake will always feel a little like home to us. We both grew up here, long before we ever thought about helping other families move here, and that is probably why it is hard for us to describe it as just another Houston suburb. It isn't one.
Two things shape daily life here. The first is NASA. Johnson Space Center is not simply somewhere to take visitors; it built this community. Engineers, astronauts, scientists and contractors live in these neighborhoods, and the street names tell the story: NASA Parkway, Space Center Boulevard, Saturn Lane, Gemini Avenue. The second is the water. Clear Lake connects through the Clear Creek channel to Galveston Bay, which means sailing, boating, fishing and waterfront restaurants are part of an ordinary Saturday in a way they are not in Katy, Cypress or The Woodlands.
The other thing to know is that "Clear Lake" is an area, not a single city. Clear Lake City, the original heart of it, has a Houston address. Around it sit small separate cities, each with its own feel: Nassau Bay, Webster, El Lago, Taylor Lake Village, Seabrook and Clear Lake Shores. That confuses a lot of relocating buyers, and it matters, because the city you land in changes your taxes, your services and sometimes your schools.

Schools
Most of the Clear Lake area is served by Clear Creek ISD, a district that covers about 100 square miles and 13 cities across Harris and Galveston counties. Its high schools include Clear Lake, Clear Brook, Clear Creek, Clear Springs and Clear Falls. Which campus a home is zoned to depends on the street, and the district has redrawn boundaries before, so confirm the zoning for a specific address before you fall in love with a house.
What homes cost
The median sale price across the Clear Lake area was about $357,500 as of October 2026, with homes taking around 78 days to sell. That middle number hides a wide spread: condos and older homes in the original Clear Lake City sections sell well below it, while golf-course homes in Bay Oaks and waterfront property in Nassau Bay, Taylor Lake Village and Seabrook sell well above it. Ask us for current numbers on the specific neighborhood you're considering.
Getting around
Clear Lake sits southeast of Downtown Houston along I-45, the Gulf Freeway, roughly 20 to 25 miles out depending on where you start. Many residents never make that drive, because Johnson Space Center, the aerospace contractors and the medical offices around Webster are all local. Hobby Airport is to the north on the way into town, and Galveston is a straight shot south on I-45.

Our Clear Lake Roots

We both grew up in Clear Lake. We went to school with several of the astronauts' kids, and Vicky's dad worked for NASA contractors his whole career, so the space program was never somewhere we visited. It was the neighborhood.
We spent a lot of our childhood at Bay Area Park, and the Lunar Rendezvous Festival was simply part of the year. Peter was already playing guitar back then, and he still is.
We have lived in Spring for the past ten years, but when we help a family move to Clear Lake, we are showing them the place we come from.
